Suggestion: Political Mapping

15 posts in this topic

I think it would be a very interesting idea on the main Nation page to give you a rough estimate of where the country you are developing falls in the Political Spectrum. Something like this possibly.

I think this would make it easier for people to see just how exactly their country is turning out while also giving people an idea of their political viewpoint if they just start creating the country how they want.

Thanks.

Looks like NS.

I think this is directly taken from NS.

Supposedly there are three different scales a nation can slide which are used to see which laws are passed: Isolationist - Interventionist, Authoritarian - Libertarian, and Capitalist - Socialist. I believe some posters asked if we could see where our nation was in each scale, but as of now, we can't.

I don't want to copy NS, no thanks.

I think that is simpler, easier, and since it's rather vague it allows you work upon it.

Those two things are exactly the same....

the suggestion in the OP has 2 horizontal and 1 vertical slider as opposed to 3 horizontal sliders. That is the only difference.

Oh, I'm actually in favor of a slider that shows where my nation is at politically. I think it'll be a fun addition in relation to laws, though I did envision the graph a bit simpler than the OP's. Not that I'm against the graph; if they can find a way to implement it, that'd be great.

An *adjustable* slider through which you could direct you nation would be a plus.

I don't think that's a good idea at all. I think the laws you enact/ tax rates, your industries etc. should reflect where you are politically, you shouldn't be able to play it how you want then click a button to make you more socialist. I think it should show you where you are, not be interactive at all.

How about five scales (social, economic, political, international, structural)?

Example:

      Authoritarian  <-------------------------------------------------------------->  Libertarian

              Socialist  <-------------------------------------------------------------->  Capitalist

          Totalitarian  <-------------------------------------------------------------->  Democratic

   Interventionist  <-------------------------------------------------------------->  Isolationist

            Centralist  <-------------------------------------------------------------->  Devolutionist

The game works on three scales:

Foreign policy: Isolationist/Interventionist

Economy: Capitalist/Socialist

Social Freedom: Authoritarian/Libertarian

Other scales don't exist/have no meaning in the current structure of the game

Is there a reason why can't they add another two?

Five scales would make a lot more sense than the current three;

Authoritarian <-> Libertarian = Position on social issues such as drugs.

Socialist <-> Capitalist = Position on economic issues such as social security.

Totalitarian <-> Democratic = Position on political issues such as term limits.

Interventionist <-> Isolationist = Position on matters of international relations such as foreign aid.

Centralist <-> Devolutionist = Position on matters of state centralization such as the devolution of legislative powers.

No slider. But this definitely would add flavor to the game. It would also allow us to help debug the game, for all the laws that we think we should be able to pass but never did.
